Honor’s gunning to become one of India’s top smartphone vendors in India. The brand, a subsidiary of Huawei, launched the affordable Honor 7X in December in the country, and the flagship Honor View 10, on Monday. And this week, Honor said that it intends to launch a smartphone with dual cameras on the front and rear in India later this month.
Huawei didn’t reveal a lot about the upcoming device’s details, but it won’t be the first of its kind. Honor already sells the Honor 9i in the country for Rs. 17,999 (about $283), which has dual front and dual rear cameras.
The company didn’t reveal the price of the upcoming smartphone, or any of its key features. But it could be the Honor 9 Lite, which is rumored to have quad cameras.
The Honor 9 Lite was released in China in December, and at the time, Honor said that it would come to 14 additional countries later in the year, including India, Russia, and the UK. India might be its first international destination.
Specifications-wise, the Honor 9 Lite is mostly similar to the Honor 9i. The only difference between the two phones is the display size: The former has a 5.65-inch display, whereas the latter has a 5.93-inch display of the same type and resolution.
The Honor 9 Lite is a dual-SIM device that’s powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 659 system-on-chip, and comes in multiple variants with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. It has a microSD card slot and a Full HD+ (2160×1080) 18:9 aspect ratio IPS display with a screen density of 428 pixels per inch (PPI).
The Honor 9 Lite’s camera setup is unique: It’s got a 13MP primary camera paired with a 2MP secondary camera (for depth sensing), and a rear sensor with PDAF autofocus.
The phone’s other highlights include a 3.5mm headphone jack, 4G VoLTE, a microUSB port, and a 3000mAh battery. It runs EMUI 8.0 atop Android 8.0 Oreo, and pricing starts at CNY 1199 ($184) for the 3GB/32GB variant up to CNY 1499 ($230) for the 4GB/32GB variant and CNY 1799 ($276) for the 4GB/64GB variant.
